VitiNord 2009 was a resounding success!

St-Hyacinthe ( Quebec ) hosted the second international symposium on northern climate viticulture. 340 participants representing 8 countries attended the 17 conferences during 3 days. They had the opportunity to interact with different experts in the grapevine industry through organized activities.

The recognition dinner highlighted the contributions to the development of viticuture in cold climates of 9 people; As each wine was served during the wine tasting dinner, the producer of the wine discussed his or her technique for producing it. The trade show revealed many new products from various represented countries.

We thank all participants, exhibitors and speakers who contributed for the success of this event. Hope to see you in 2012!

The mission of the International Association for Northern Viticulture (IANV) is to promote the advancement of viticulture in northern environments that are characterized by cool or short summers and/or cold winters. The IANV successfully organized an international symposium in 2006 in Riga, Latvia where 17 countries were represented.

Agricultural diversification is a method to boost rural areas and stimulate local economy. The development of cold climate viticulture follows this belief closely and the Quebec wine industry greatly supports this event’s initiative.
